Voorbereidingen

Dus, het is zover! Ik ga op stage naar Ethiopië! Het was flink wat geregel, maar dankzij de beurs van Stichting Onderwijsfonds COCMA en een bijdrage vanuit de Hogeschool Rotterdam en mijn werk OGD ict-diensten gaat het nu eindelijk gebeuren! 

Het balletje begon te rollen tijdens mijn uitwisseling naar Ethiopië in maart, waarbij de leerlingen van het International Leadership Academy (ILAE) een grote indruk op mij achter gelaten hadden. Dit kwam vooral door het feit dat ze erg gemotiveerd op mij overkwamen. Dus, ik besloot toen om een keer terug te gaan en om erachter te komen waarom zij zo gemotiveerd zijn. Vanuit ILAE krijg ik de opdracht om lessen op te zetten waarbij ze hun nieuwe laboratorium kunnen gaan gebruiken, dus ik heb nog genoeg te doen!

Wat betreft de voorbereidingen, tja, stage is geregeld. Beurs is geregeld. Vliegtickets zijn geboekt. Vaccinaties worden donderdag geregeld. Nu nog zorgen dat ik de benodigde documenten bij elkaar krijg om een studenten visa aan te vragen, en dat was het dan denk ik voor mij. Mijn woonruimte word geregeld door de Assistant Head of School van ILAE. Dat zijn alle belangrijke punten voor mijn reis en verblijf denk ik zo. Nu is het tijd voor mijzelf om een lijstje te maken van wat ik allemaal nodig heb en wat ik dus allemaal mee ga nemen! Oh, en natuurlijk een bezoek aan de Ethiopische ambassade in Brussel plannen, zodra ik alle documenten heb. Het gaat echt gebeuren! Can't wait. :)

So, it's time to get everything started! Internship in Ethiopia here I come! It took some time to get things organised and to get enough information from different sources, but thanks to a scholarship from Stichting Onderwijsfonds COCMA and financial aid from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and my work OGD ict-diensten the financials are covered.

The idea for this internship came from an exchange in Ethiopia. During this internship I visited a secondary school with several other students, where the students of the International Leadership Academy (ILAE) really made a huge impression! Their motivation for several projects motivated me to come back to ILAE where I hope to find out why they're that motivated. Next to this personal quest, ILAE asked me to develop a program where the students are teached about the practical side of science. So I've got my work cut out for me.

And about the preparations, well.... the internship is confirmed. The scholarship has been confirmed, booked my seats on the airplanes, vaccinations will be done this thursday. The only I still need are some documents for a student visa, but I've allready requested those. The assistant head of school from ILAE will take care of my housing in an appartement on campus. So I guess the most important things for my trip and stay are covered. Time to write down a list of all the things I will need in Ethiopia and to plan a trip to the Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels. But all in all, it's really happening! Can't wait for it!
